Adventures At Spring Training - The Red Barn
One more adventure from my trip to Florida last month. Nearby the motel we stayed at was a flea market called The Red Barn. It's a huge place that has all sorts of vendors and shops. We went there one morning and did some souvenir shopping.
Now, I don't usually buy souvenirs for myself. The autographed baseballs I get before games are all the keepsakes I need. However, when I found a shop that had sports cards and comics - well, I had to spend something!
I only spent $5, but I got some good entertainment value for my fiver. The "big" purchase was a complete Red Sox team set of 1981 Topps Coca-Cola. I've always loved the design of '81 Topps and have had this 12-card set in the back of my mind for awhile now. The fact that 4 out of those 12 are Hall of Famers (Yastrzemski, Rice, Eckersley, and Perez) makes it even better!
The vendor also had two plastic bins full of old junk wax and "repacks" at 5-for-$1 I couldn't resist! I found four packs I thought worthy of the price, along with one repack.
I thought it would be fun to do a pack war with the sealed packs, so I'll open those for a future post. The "repack" I'll show off now. This pack caught my eye for one reason:
How could I pass up a 70's Red Sox card? Funny thing is, I didn't even catch the 75th Anniversary buyback stamp until after I left. The opposite side also had a card worth 20 cents on its own:
Was I expecting anything good amid the cards in between? Of course not. But maybe I'd find something worth blogging about. What treasures did my repack contain?
Hahaha! Nothing but 1987 Topps! Too funny! The guy couldn't even bother to mix things up a bit. I will say though that these cards are in excellent condition! Sharp corners, no fading. I think these were recently freed from their wax containment. Maybe I'll upgrade with these.
Oh well, the Cooper buyback and the Griffey were worth 20 cents, so I'm OK with this. Half the fun is the unveiling after all! Stay tuned for what joys the sealed packs may contain!

Man... as much as I enjoy Topps Coca-Cola sets... that 20¢ repack stole the show. Congratulations on the nice flea market finds.
ReplyDeleteGot to love it. 5 for a buck.
