Repack Haiku #380 (Bob Geren)

Caught Hawkin's No-No
Which was removed from records
Because team lost game

1990 Donruss #395 Bob Geren

Geren was the starting catcher when Andy Hawkin's no-hit the White Sox in 1990. The next year, MLB clarified the definition of a no-hitter, and since the Yankees lost that game 4-0 (thanks to 3 errors in one inning!) it lost it's status as an official no-hitter.

  1. It was removed because it was only 8 innings (Yankees were losing after the top of the ninth so no bottom of the ninth for the White Sox)

    1. Yep! I remember at the time reading about his feat and thinking how incredible it was to lose a game without allowing a hit. A few years later Red Sox pitcher Matt Young also gave up no hits in a losing game, but by then the rule had been more clearly defined.

  2. 3 errors in an inning... and not allowing a hit. That's a tough way to lose a game.
