Eighty-nine was huge:
Won World Series ring with A's,
Placed third in Cy Young
1989 was a highlight year for Mike Moore. He went 19-11, played in his only All-Star Game, and finished third for Cy Young Award behind winner Bret Saberhagen and teammate Dave Stewart. He also earned a Championship ring as the A's swept the Giants in the World Series.
I had to check baseball-reference to see if that was his only "good" year, because I only remember him as a serviceable innings-eater. There were some other above-average seasons but nothing close to his '89 performance.
ReplyDeleteMoore was a solid starter for the A's for several years. Sure miss the days when the A's were contenders... and weren't on the verge of leaving Oakland :D
