Without steroid help
1990 Donruss #185 Mark McGwire |
We'll probably never know how much of an effect steroid use had on any player's performance. Maybe McGwire is right - like he said, he was already a proficient power hitter. He didn't need to take steroids, but the truth is he did and we'll never know for sure how much was him and how much wasn't.
It always irks me when athletes say crap like that. If you really believed in your own abilities, why did you feel the need to cheat?
ReplyDeleteIn McGwire's case I think he used more for repair than to cheat. Of course the cheat was the result.
DeleteKeep in mind there was a good stretch where breathing heavily put him on the DL.
Man... 1998 was sure memorable... and McGwire (and Sosa) played a big part in that.
ReplyDeleteI call bull! He might've made it to 50 when healthy, but I don't believe for a single second that he could've gotten much more than that without the juice.
