After career cut short
(Two severe knee injuries)
Started academy
Jones tore the patellar tendon in his right knee in 1989, and in the opposite knee a year later. He started a baseball academy with his friend, former big leaguer Charlie Hayes, in 2005. Tragically, Jones died a year later. Hayes kept the academy running, much to the benefit of his own son, Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes.

I remember a story in a magazine mentioning both Ron and the wrestler Sting and their recoveries from the same injury. It was a wrestling magazine in the 90s, so take it with a grain of salt. It could have been made up for all I know.. lol
ReplyDeleteDidn't realize Charlie is Ke'Bryan's father... and have zero recollection of Jones. Sad he passed away at such a young age.
ReplyDeleteAs far as sports medicine has progressed since then, he probably could've come back from those injuries these days.
