McDonald was the #1 overall draft pick in 1989. He signed his contract with the Orioles on August 19, and after a brief minor league stint, made his Major League debut on September 6. It was the 6th time in MLB history that the #1 overall pick made their MLB debut the same season as being drafted.
I remember opening packs of 1990 Donruss... searching for this card... or other rookies like Belle, Justice, Gonzalez, or Grissom.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Interesting piece of baseball trivia with the #1 pick making their debut the same season he was drafted. I wonder who the first 5 guys were... and how many have joined the club since.
