Repack Haiku #342 (Bud Norris)

After deadline trade
Walked to the other dugout
Beat old team next day

2010 Upper Deck #237 Bud Norris

Norris and the Astros were playing in Camden Yards when he was traded to the Orioles at the 2013 deadline (for, among others, future 5x All-Star Josh Hader). Norris immediately went to the home dugout, and earned the win against his former teammates the next day.

Trapped In Time: Remnants Of The 68th And 69th Trades

It's time to put a few more cards on the trade block!

Trade #68 (Personal collection swap)
Added to My Personal Collection 10/05/20: 1971 Topps #295 Bobby Bonds, 1971 Topps #310 Tommie Agee, 1980 Topps #51 Joe Ferguson, 1980 Topps #290 Steve Garvey (AS)

Added to the Time Travel Trade Stack 10/05/20:
  • 1980 Topps #90 Manny Trillo
  • 1980 Topps #145 Darrell Evans
  • 1970 Topps #37 Dick Drago (See Trade #83)
  • 1970 Topps #200 1969 AL Playoffs Game 2 (See Trade #83)
I knew this would eventually happen if I did this little sub-series long enough. I finally reached a trade with myself. These cards were originally sitting in my doubles box, and unless someone trades for them soon, back to the doubles box they will go!

Both of these guys had decent careers. Trillo is a 4x All-Star who has won multiple gold gloves and silver slugger awards. Evans played until the age of 42 and eclipsed the 400 home run plateau.

Our next card is the lone survivor of a sizable trade with Bo (Baseball Cards Come To Life!):

Trade #69 (Bo: Baseball Cards Come To Life!)
Traded 10/14/20: 1958 Topps #289 Series Hurling Rivals (CPC), 1959 Topps #521 Gary Geiger, 1963 Jay Publishing New York Yankees #NNO Yogi Berra, 1963 Jay Publishing New York Yankees #NNO Whitey Ford, 1963 Jay Publishing New York Yankees #NNO Elston Howard, 1965 Topps #267 Washington Senators (TC)

Received 10/20/20:
  • 1969 Topps #75 Luis Aparicio (See Trade #136)
  • 1969 Topps #107 Checklist 110-218 - Bob Gibson (CL, ERR) (See Trade #71)
  • 1969 Topps #360 Jim Wynn (See Trade #75)
  • 1968 Topps #205 Juan Marichal (See Trade #74)
  • 1968 Topps #257 Phil Niekro (See Trade #100)
  • 1968 Topps #320 Frank Howard (See Trade #134)
  • 1967 Topps #60 Luis Aparicio (See Trade #215)
  • 1964 Topps #30 Ron Perranoski (See Trade #73)
  • 1961 Topps #83 Bob Bruce (See Trade #281)
  • 1961 Topps #111 Jack Meyer
  • 1961 Topps #114 Hobie Landrith (See Trade #89)
  • 1961 Topps #189 3rd Series Checklist 177-264 (CL, VAR) (See Trade #71)
  • 1956 Topps #80 Cincinati Redlegs (TC, VAR) (See Trade #125)
  • 1956 Topps #284 Ike Delock (See Trade #125)

Meyer's claim to fame is coming in second for the 1955 Rookie Of The Year award. He pitched 7 seasons for the Phillies and was done before he turned 30. This is a great looking card I must say - backgrounds don't get much better than that! Fun fact: As of right now I have 4 cards from the 1961 Topps set in my personal collection. All four ended up there because they were Time Travel cards no one wanted. Will Meyer become the 5th?

These three cards will get pulled from the project and added to my collection unless someone makes an offer for them.

Repack Haiku #341 (Corey Dickerson)

Lone guy to reach base
During Kershaw's no-hitter
(Error by Hanley)

Shortstop Hanley Ramirez's errant throw in the 7th inning allowed Dickerson to reach first base safely. Kershaw was perfect otherwise, and the Dodgers beat the Rockies easily 8-0.

Time Travel Trading Update #85

Welcome to the first Time Travel Trading Update of 2024! I'm excited to begin the 6th year (!!!) of this project with 3 great trades, all of them with something special to offer!

Our first trade comes from John (Adventures Of A Baseball Card Collector). This is his second foray to the Time Travel Trading Project, and in exchange for some great vintage, he sends a wonderful selection of cards, including some I had never seen before!

There's two in particular I want to highlight. First we have a card from a 1964 Ed-U-Cards Washington Senators Baseball Card Game. No player is represented, but it features the logo of a team that has not existed in over 50 years! The other "card" is from 1953 and was collected at the time so it could be exchanged for a standard playing deck of cards using that same artwork. If you haven't looked closely at it, that would be the one and only Lou Gehrig! Yep, you technically have a chance to own a vintage Gehrig!

Next up we have a new trade partner! Tony (Uncle Charlie's Shoebox) joins the Time Travel community with his first ever blog trade! He's a Cubs fan, and found some vintage Cubbies he needed. In return, he sent a excellent trio of 1959 Topps!

Here's hoping this is just the first of many!

Last but certainly not least is Time Traveling regular Brendan (The View From The Third Floor). Brendan always sends a fun smorgasbord of cards, and this month is no different!

Thanks to John, Tony, and Brendan for the awesome cards! Hopefully next month I'll be able to get my hands on some 2024 Topps to give the project it's annual new card boost!

As always, these cards are all available in exchange for an older card. You can claim your cards below, or through the TCDB (Kep75). Let's make some trades!

The Time Travel Trading Project is simple in concept. I started out with a random pack of 2018 Topps Series 1 baseball cards. My aim was to trade every card in that pack for something older. Each card I receive in turn is then made available for trade, with the goal to get the oldest card I can get.

Number of trades completed: 284
Unique trading partners: 73

Number of cards mailed out: 1,536
Year of oldest card mailed out: 1910-11

Number of cards received: 2,264
Year of oldest card received: 1890
