Brewers' waiver claim
Was first move by G.M. Sterns
Rookie won nine games.
Mets' Head of Baseball Operations David Sterns was one of the youngest General Managers in history when Milwaukee hired him in 2015. His first move was to claim Guerra off waivers from the White Sox organization. Guerra, who is only one month older than Sterns, made his debut with the Brewers the next season, going 9-3 with a 2.81 ERA in 20 games.
On a personal note, back in 2017 I took a pack of Topps cards and sent every card in that pack off to hopefully get signed. Junior Guerra was the first of 4 eventual returns, sending his back in just a little over 3 weeks after I sent it. I'll always be grateful for that.
Ttm successes are always a thrill.
ReplyDeleteThat idea of sending out the contents of a pack to see who would return it is pretty cool. Who were the other three guys? Did you ever write a post on that?
ReplyDeleteThe other ones were Christian Yelich, Jeremy Hellickson, and Kyle Hendricks. Since I did this before I started the blog, I never showed off the Guerra and Yelich, but I did for Hellickson (https://diamond-jesters.blogspot.com/2018/03/this-former-roy-winner-did-something.html) and Hendricks (https://diamond-jesters.blogspot.com/2020/05/this-former-era-champ-did-something.html).
DeleteWait I did do a post for Yelich! (https://diamond-jesters.blogspot.com/2017/12/ttm-success.html)
