In spot start where umps
Were forced to wear Phillies gear:
Ten-inning shutout
Leach's lone start in 1982 was memorable for two things: First, an airport mishap caused the umpiring crew to not have their luggage. During the game, they had to wear spare Phillies' uniforms and groundskeepers’ gear. The other memorable thing was Leach's superb pitching performance, shutting out the Phillies for 10 innings, only allowing a single hit!
Whoa. That is an impressive outing. Glad he ended up getting the complete game win. I wonder how many pitchers have gone 10 innings or more while pitching a complete game shutout in the last forty years. I'm guessing there aren't a lot.
