Which nickname is best:
Berman's Von "Purple" Hayes, or
Rose's "Five for One"?
Chris Berman's colorful nickname is of course a tribute to Jimi Hendrix, while Pete Rose coined the name for the fact that the Indians traded Hayes to the Phillies for Jay Baller, Julio Franco, Manny Trillo, George Vukovich and Jerry Willard.
- A Phillies legend.
ReplyDelete- Saw him play all three OF positions in the same game at the Stick.
- All-Star in '89.
- Managed the Modesto A's to a California League title in 2004 and was named California League Manager of the Year.
- Attended St. Mary's High School and Saint. Mary's College. LOL.
- Trillo is also a Phillies legend. 4x All-Star, 1980 NLCS MVP, 3 Gild Gloves, pretty wife.
- Franco is also a Phillies legend. 3x All-Star. He was 49 when he retired.
- The other three were throw-ins. Though Vukovich was on the 1980 team that some say is the best baseball team ever.
Meh. There shouldn't be a dot after Saint. Please disregard it.
