Smith made the All-Star team in 1986 and 1990. He pitched in 563 games for Houston, finishing 400 of them. His 199 saves is second only to newly minted Hall of Famer Billy Wagner.
Smith is one of only four guys to play the entire decade (80's) for the Astros. The other three were Craig Reynolds, Terry Puhl, and Alan Ashby.
ReplyDeleteThis got me curious to see if the A's or Padres had any player who spent the entire decade with them. I didn't find anyone. In fact, I only found two players (one for each team) that played for the team in 1980 and 1989: Rickey Henderson (A's) and Luis Salazar (Padres). This makes those four Astros sticking with Houston the entire decade even more impressive.
