Crocodile Rocks!

Crocodile Sports Cards is still a relatively new blog around here, just starting up last November. That hasn't stopped Greg from jumping in to the giveaway spirit. A couple months ago, he decided to give away some 2021 Topps cards. I claimed one - an Update series card of now former Red Sox reliever Adam Ottavino.

When you're only expecting one card, you're expecting a standard plain white envelope. Imagine my surprise when a box arrived instead!

In addition to the card I claimed, Greg sent some extra Red Sox goodies..

Thanks to him, I'm a Jim Rice short of having all the Red Sox from the 1977 Topps set!

He threw in a handful of woeful but still loved Buffalo Sabres...

Here's hoping Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power can lead this team to ending a miserable 11 season playoff drought!

But why the box? That's the only way he could fit this...

I had never seen these before, but fortunately they were listed on the the TCDB. This is from the 1981 Topps Home Team Photos Boston Red Sox set. I miss the days when packs were priced in terms of cents and not dollars. I'm not quite sure what to do with these. It's a unique display item, and I don't have anything that could protect the 5"x7" cards better than the packages they're wrapped in. For now, I decided to just open one. it's a 12 card set, and this team featured 5 Hall of Famers, so my odds are pretty good of opening a sweet photo....

Yeah, Carlton Fisk in a magnificent red batting helmet will do nicely!

Thanks again for all the goodies Greg! If you haven't checked out Crocodile Sports Cards, head over there and say hello!

  1. This is my kind of post! :) I was kind of bummed I couldn't find that Rice for you and I'm glad you like the cards. With you being a Red Sox fan, I figured you would appreciate the 5x7's. I store mine in a binder. Hopefully there's a full set in there.
And thanks for the shout out!

  2. That's a heck of a return package, my kind of stuff. Love the early '80s photo cards. There are pages for those cards (2 pockets).

  3. The 1981 Topps Home Team cards are really cool. I wish they would have made a Bay Area version with the Giants and A's. As for the standard size cards... that 77T Fisk is my favorite. Iconic play at the plate card.
